How to Change Maytag Refrigerator Water Filter

If you have a Maytag refrigerator, you know how important it is to keep your water filter clean and fresh. The water filter removes contaminants and impurities from your drinking water, ice cubes, and even the water used for cooking. A dirty or clogged water filter can affect the taste, smell, and quality of your water, as well as reduce the water flow and pressure. That’s why you should change your water filter every 6 months, or when the indicator light on your fridge tells you to do so.

Changing your water filter is a quick and easy process that you can do yourself in minutes. Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Find the right filter for your fridge

The first thing you need to do is to find the correct replacement filter for your Maytag refrigerator model. This information can be found in your refrigerator’s user manual or on the Maytag website. You can also use the EveryDrop™ online tool to find the right filter for your fridge by entering your model number or filter number.

You can purchase an EveryDrop™ water filter from your local retailer or online. EveryDrop™ filters are certified by NSF International to reduce up to 99% of common contaminants found in tap water, such as lead, chlorine, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and more.

Step 2: Turn off the water supply and release the pressure

Before changing the filter, you need to turn off the water supply to your fridge. This will prevent any leaks or spills during the process. You can find the water supply valve behind your fridge or under your sink. Turn it clockwise until it stops.

Next, you need to release the pressure from the water line. To do this, simply dispense some water from the dispenser or ice maker until the flow stops. This will ensure that there is no water left in the filter or the tubing.

Step 3: Locate and remove the old filter

The next step is to locate and remove the old filter from your fridge. Depending on your model, the filter may be located in different places:

  • In the upper right corner inside your refrigerator
  • In a flip down compartment at the upper right of the refrigerator
  • In a pull out tray at the bottom of the refrigerator
  • In the lower left corner of the refrigerator base grille
  • To remove the old filter, you need to either push a release button or turn it counterclockwise until it stops. Then, pull it out and discard it. Be careful not to spill any water that may be left in the filter.

Step 4: Install the new filter

To install the new filter, you need to first open it and remove the protective coverings from the O-rings. Make sure that the O-rings are still in place after removing the coverings.

Then, insert the new filter into the filter slot, making sure that the arrow is pointing upward. Push it in until it clicks into place. Depending on your model, you may need to turn it clockwise until it locks.

Finally, close the filter door or compartment and make sure that it snaps into place.

Step 5: Flush the new filter and reset the indicator light

The last step is to flush the new filter and reset the indicator light on your fridge. To flush the new filter, you need to run four gallons of water through it to remove any air bubbles or carbon dust. You can do this by dispensing water from the dispenser or ice maker until you reach four gallons.

To reset the indicator light, you need to press a button on your fridge’s control panel for 3 to 5 seconds. The button may be labeled as WATER FILTER, FILTER RESET, or RESET FILTER. The light should turn off after pressing the button.

You have successfully changed your Maytag refrigerator water filter! Enjoy fresh and clean water for drinking, cooking, and making ice!
